Turkmenistan Develops Innovative Solutions for Oil and Gas Waste Management

61 views Society 0

Two developments aimed at reducing the environmental impact of oil and gas activities and more efficiently using industrial waste have been patented in Turkmenistan, Turkmenportal.com reported.

The first technology is designed to remediate soils contaminated with petroleum products. It is based on local microorganisms capable of degrading heavy hydrocarbons even under high temperatures and salinity. This biological approach could reduce reliance on chemical reagents when cleaning up oil and gas facilities.

The second development is an organomineral sulfur-polymer concrete created using industrial sulfur generated during the purification of natural gas. The material is highly resistant to salts and can be used in the construction of irrigation canals, hydraulic structures, port facilities, and saline water drainage systems.

Both developments demonstrate Turkmenistan's commitment to combining the development of the oil and gas sector with more efficient use of its byproducts. Recycling sulfur waste and biological remediation of contaminated lands simultaneously address environmental challenges and create opportunities to reduce construction and reclamation costs.
