A meeting between Tajikistan's Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Daler Juma, and Japanese Parliamentary Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Eri Arfiya, took place in Dushanbe. The parties discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in energy and water resources management, Avesta.tj reported.
Particular attention was paid to attracting Japanese investment, modern technologies, and best practices for the development of Tajikistan's energy and water sectors. The participants also discussed the implementation of specific projects, including the construction of a new electrical substation in Dushanbe and the modernization of the Varzob-2 hydroelectric power station.
Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their interest in further expanding cooperation and implementing joint projects.
Cooperation with Japan is of practical interest to Tajikistan due to the opportunity to attract technology, long-term financing, and experience in managing complex infrastructure. For a country with significant hydroelectric potential and a growing need to modernize its energy system, Japanese participation can help improve the reliability of electricity supply and the efficient use of water resources.
