Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan Launch Electronic Customs Data Exchange to Speed Up Border Trade

Since August 2026, the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan have launched a regular electronic exchange of advance information on goods and vehicles. The new mechanism operates on the basis of an interagency agreement and agreed-upon technical specifications, Orient.tm reports.

Customs authorities of the two countries receive information on cargo before it arrives at checkpoints, enabling early data analysis and expediting subsequent control procedures.

For businesses and transport companies, this digital exchange is intended to reduce border clearance time, reduce paperwork, and make deliveries more predictable. At the same time, the mechanism should improve the reliability of mutual trade statistics.

The transition to the advance exchange of customs data is an important element in the digitalization of trade between Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. For the two countries interested in expanding transit and trade ties, reducing border time could have a direct economic impact, particularly for freight carriers.

Furthermore, this electronic exchange allows customs authorities to focus on potentially risky shipments even before the cargo arrives. In the long term, such solutions could improve the efficiency of Central Asian transport corridors and facilitate the further convergence of national digital systems in trade and logistics.
