Business communities of Tajikistan and Kazakhstan signed 11 agreements worth a combined $135.3 million at a business forum in Astana, reported The Astana Times.

The forum took place on November 5, the day Tajik President Emomali Rahmon arrived in the Kazakh capital ahead of his official visit. Discussions covered trade, investment and industrial cooperation, agriculture, the digital economy, IT and cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and renewable energy.

Energy was among the main topics. About 98% of Tajikistan’s electricity comes from renewable sources, mainly hydropower. Kazakhstan still relies heavily on coal: renewables make up 3.8 GW of its 27.1 GW installed capacity. They generated 8.5% of Kazakhstan’s electricity in the first nine months of 2026, above the 7% target, and Astana plans at least 8.4 GW of new renewable capacity by 2035.

The two countries signed a Treaty on Allied Relations in 2024 and aim to raise bilateral trade to $2 billion. Rahmon’s visit coincided with the Aqaba Process summit, and it underlines how Dushanbe is deepening ties with Central Asia’s largest economy as regional energy integration gains momentum.
