At the COP17 Leaders' Summit in Yerevan, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov proposed establishing a Global Mountain Resilience Center in Bishkek, 24.kg reported.

Japarov noted that mountain ecosystems are the first to experience the devastating consequences of climate change—glacier melting, soil degradation, and water shortages.

The new international platform aims to unite the efforts of the global community, scientists, and financial institutions to develop adaptation programs and attract targeted green financing.

This initiative confirms Kyrgyzstan's commitment to securing its status as a leading global moderator of the mountain climate agenda.

For the country, 94% of whose territory is mountainous, accelerated glacier degradation poses direct threats to long-term water and energy security.

The establishment of a specialized center in Bishkek strengthens the country's international standing, transforming environmental vulnerabilities into a tool for diplomatic influence and economic development.
