Tajikistan and the World Bank signed a package of agreements to finance four new projects totaling $495.5 million. According to Avesta.tj, citing the Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan, the documents were signed by Finance Minister Fayziddin Qahhorzoda, World Bank Regional Director for Central Asia Nadji Benhassine, and World Bank Group Country Manager for Tajikistan Gael Raballan.
The largest amount of funds—$300 million—will be allocated to the second phase of the Rogun Hydropower Plant (HPP) Sustainable Financing Facility. An additional $100 million is earmarked to support reforms within the framework of competitiveness and inclusive development policies. $75 million is being allocated to improve water resources and irrigation management, with additional funding for water supply and sanitation projects totaling $20.5 million, including a $14.64 million grant from the European Union.
According to Nadji Benhassine, the new package reflects the long-term partnership between the World Bank and Tajikistan under the Country Cooperation Framework for 2026–2032 and aims to strengthen energy security, develop infrastructure, and stimulate economic growth.
The allocation of nearly half a billion dollars demonstrates that international financial institutions view Tajikistan as a key partner in Central Asia for infrastructure development. Priority financing for the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Station (HPP) confirms the strategic importance of hydropower for the country's economy and its export potential.
At the same time, investments in water management, irrigation, and institutional reforms demonstrate the donors' commitment to supporting not only large-scale energy projects but also sustainable agricultural development, improving the quality of public services, and creating conditions for attracting private investment.
