Turkmenistan and Pakistan intend to intensify cooperation in digital transformation, information technology, and telecommunications. Representatives of Pakistan's Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications and the diplomatic mission of Turkmenistan discussed the development of their bilateral partnership in Islamabad, Orient.tm reported.
During the meeting, the Pakistani side was briefed on Turkmenistan's priorities in the areas of economic digitalization, public administration, and social services. The parties noted the significant potential for implementing joint technology projects, exchanging experience, and developing IT infrastructure, telecommunications systems, and e-government.
Turkmenistan's international initiatives and events marking the 35th anniversary of its independence were also discussed. These included the upcoming meeting of the Halk Maslakhaty (People's Council) and the first Akhal-Teke Equestrian World Championship, which will be held in the Netherlands from September 4–6.
Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness to support each other's initiatives at international venues and develop a long-term technology partnership.
Expanding contacts in the IT sector could become a new area of Turkmen-Pakistani cooperation, traditionally focused primarily on energy, transport, and trade. For Turkmenistan, a partnership with Pakistan is of interest in terms of gaining technological experience and expanding international ties in the digitalization process.
For Islamabad, cooperation could open opportunities to enter the Turkmen market and participate in its infrastructure projects. The practical value of these agreements will depend on the transition from exchange of experience to specific joint projects in telecommunications, digital government services, and IT training.
