Uzbekistan has begun test operations of a modern, Chinese-made high-speed train, which arrived in the Andijan region. The train is capable of reaching speeds of up to 160 km/h and can carry up to 415 passengers. Once launched into regular service, the train will be able to travel the distance between Tashkent and Andijan in approximately three hours, UzDaily.uz reported.
This new project is significant not only for the development of Uzbekistan's domestic transport infrastructure but also in the broader context of deepening cooperation between the country and China. The delivery of this modern train demonstrates the shift in bilateral ties from primarily trade and economic cooperation to the implementation of technological and infrastructure projects.
For Uzbekistan, the development of high-speed rail service is particularly important given the increasing mobility of the population and the need to more closely connect the capital with the rapidly developing regions of the Fergana Valley. Reducing travel time to three hours could boost business activity, expand labor mobility, and make domestic travel more attractive.
