DUSHANBE - Tajikistan has significant hydropower potential, but it is only partially exploited, according to a report by the country's Committee on Investments and State Property Management, Sputnik-Tajikistan reports.

According to the agency, the country ranks first in Central Asia in terms of installed hydroelectric capacity and is among the countries with the largest global hydropower reserves. Annual hydroelectric power generation is estimated at up to 527 billion kWh.

It is noted that approximately 60% of Central Asia's water resources are concentrated in Tajikistan, but only about 5% of the country's hydropower potential is utilized.

In addition to hydropower, the country has significant potential in solar and wind energy. Currently, approximately 98% of energy produced comes from renewable sources.

As part of its energy sector development strategy, Tajik authorities plan to fully transition to renewable energy by 2032 and achieve "green country" status by 2037.

The report also highlights the industry's investment appeal, including infrastructure development and prospects for clean energy exports to Central Asian countries.
