ASTANA - Eurasian Resources Group (ERG) intends to soon begin field work to explore and develop chromium deposits in Afghanistan. This was reported by Qazba.kz, citing a correspondent who visited Kabul as part of a Kazakh delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangrin.

According to the source, the company is considering two main formats of participation: acquiring licenses for deposits or establishing joint ventures with Afghan partners. ERG, with one of the world's largest chromium ore resource bases and experience in ferrochrome production through its Kazchrome division, plans to leverage its technological solutions and industry expertise to implement projects in Afghanistan.

Prospects for expanding cooperation in mineral extraction and processing were also discussed during the talks. The Kazakh side expressed interest in importing industrial aquamarine for domestic processing, as well as in developing supply chains for rare and strategic minerals.

Particular attention was given to a project to supply zinc ore from Afghanistan to Kazakhstan. The agreement envisages the possible signing of a memorandum for the supply of approximately 30,000 tons of raw materials worth $18.8 million, with subsequent processing at Kazakh enterprises.

Furthermore, in October 2025, specialists from Tau-Ken Samruk visited the Bamiyan province of Afghanistan, where they collected samples at the Pami-Kakrak deposit. Subsequent analysis by Kazzinc experts confirmed the potential for industrial processing of this ore at Kazakh enterprises.

Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin previously noted that Kazakhstan is interested in expanding cooperation with Afghanistan in the mining sector, including raw material processing and the development of joint industrial projects.
