ASHGABAT - Turkmenistan continues to actively promote the implementation of the strategic Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, strengthening its role as one of the region's leading energy suppliers. Work on the 153-kilometer-long Serhetabat-Herat section of the route in Afghanistan is proceeding rapidly, Turkmenportal.com reports.

Approximately 700 Turkmen specialists and over 250 units of modern equipment are involved in the construction. To support the project, Turkmenistan has signed 17 international contracts for the supply of pipes, equipment, and materials. Specifically, the Indian company MAN Industries Ltd. is supplying over 150,000 meters of steel pipes under a contract valued at over $190 million.

A significant portion of the required products has already been delivered through the ports of Poti, Alyat, and Turkmenbashi, underscoring the growing importance of Turkmenistan's transport and logistics infrastructure for the implementation of international energy projects.

According to the industry publication Nebit-gaz, surveying work along the entire route has been completed, and contractors are welding and laying pipes, digging trenches, and insulating joints. Construction of patrol roads is also ongoing: over 107 kilometers of these routes have already been laid, ensuring the safety and efficient operation of the pipeline once it is operational.

Ashgabat views the TAPI project as an important tool for expanding Turkmen natural gas export routes and strengthening regional economic cooperation.
