The climate agenda is becoming a key focus of Tajikistan's foreign economic policy. The country is consistently strengthening cooperation with international financial institutions, seeking to attract investment for climate adaptation and green economy development, Avesta.tj reports.
The holding of high-level events in Dushanbe with the participation of the Green Climate Fund demonstrates the country's growing role in the international climate dialogue and opens up new opportunities for the implementation of environmental projects.
A "Climate Finance Partnership Evening" was held in the Dushanbe Botanical Garden as part of the 45th session of the Green Climate Fund's Board of Governors. The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan Suleimon Ziyozoda Rizo and Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund Mafalda Duarte.
The participants emphasized that holding the meeting in Dushanbe reflects the high level of trust the international community has in Tajikistan and its commitment to expanding cooperation in combating climate change. In an informal setting, representatives of governments, international organizations, and financial institutions discussed mechanisms for mobilizing climate finance, prospects for new joint projects, and strengthening partnerships.
The Tajik authorities view the Green Climate Fund as a key partner in implementing national climate policy. With the Fund's support, the country hopes to expand projects to adapt to climate change, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. This is supported by previously adopted strategic documents, including the Green Economy Development Strategy for 2023–2037 and the Nationally Determined Contribution.
According to the meeting participants, effective action against climate challenges is only possible through expanded international cooperation, increased climate finance, and the combined efforts of governments, international organizations, and the private sector.
