DUSHANBE - Tajikistan's Minister of Transport, Azim Ibrohim, met with the President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Lok Bahadur Thapa, during which the two sides discussed prospects for cooperation in the transport sector and sustainable development of transport infrastructure, Avesta.tj reports.
According to the Tajikistan Ministry of Transport, special attention was paid to the development of modern, efficient, and safe transport networks, as well as strengthening international cooperation to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
Azim Ibrohim noted that for Tajikistan, a landlocked country, developing transport connectivity is of strategic importance. He emphasized that modernizing transport infrastructure, expanding international transport corridors, and increasing transit potential are essential for economic growth, trade development, and strengthening regional integration.
The minister emphasized that the country continues to implement projects to modernize its transport infrastructure, while simultaneously introducing digital solutions and modern mechanisms to simplify transport and logistics procedures.
The parties also noted the important role of ECOSOC in supporting sustainable development of the transport sector and promoting international cooperation for the benefit of landlocked developing countries.
Tajikistan is one of 32 countries in the world that does not have direct access to seaports, making the development of international transport corridors and transit infrastructure a key area of state policy.
