The State Museum of Turkmenistan has opened the exhibition “Examples of National Heritage”, featuring items donated to the museum by private individuals, reported Turkmenportal.com.

The exhibition shows household objects, clothing and jewellery from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, along with ceramics, carpets, weaving tools and leather goods. Among the highlights is an “agar-chakmen”, a traditional robe woven from camel hair, donated by entrepreneur Aknabat Tovyyeva from Murgap etrap in Mary velayat. Ashgabat resident Tyazegul Sopi-gyzy Amanlyyeva donated examples of traditional Turkmen women’s clothing.

The main donor, Maya Berdyklycheva from Vekilbazar etrap in Mary velayat, received a certificate of honour and a commemorative gift. Museum director Meretgeldy Charyyev opened the exhibition. The event was attended by representatives of the National Museum of Turkmen Carpets, the women’s magazine “Zenan Kalby”, the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, and the private enterprise “Mähirli Zenan”.

The exhibition shows how private citizens are helping to preserve Turkmenistan’s cultural heritage. Family heirlooms that were kept at home are now becoming part of the national museum collection and are accessible to the public.
