South Korea will provide Dushanbe with a grant of up to $1.9 million to develop an intelligent transport system, reported Asiaplus.tj, citing the Dushanbe mayor’s office.

The protocol was signed by the mayor’s office and South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport during a Dushanbe delegation’s working visit to Korea on November 2–6. The delegation met Assistant Minister Kim Sok Ji and visited the Road Traffic Research Institute, the Gyeonggi Province Transport Information Centre and KD Transportation Group.

The project, “Smart Transport Development in Dushanbe”, covers traffic monitoring systems, road situation analysis, infrastructure management and better public transport. It also includes training for city transport staff.

The grant is the latest in a series of Korean transport projects in Tajikistan. Under a November 2025 memorandum, Korean partners are working on a logistics centre in the Kulob free economic zone and a preliminary feasibility study for a Dushanbe metro line. In May 2026, Tajik specialists trained in South Korea on tunnel and metro construction. A separate 2026–2028 contract with Korea National Railway, worth about $1.77 million, covers a digital transport master plan and a pilot corridor.
