In the first quarter of 2026, Kyrgyzstan's tourism exports reached $250.3 million, an 8.5% increase compared to the same period last year. According to official statistics, revenues from foreign tourists increased by almost $20 million, reports Akchbar.kg.

At the same time, tourism imports totaled $142.4 million, 7.2% higher than in January-March 2025. Despite the growth in foreign spending by Kyrgyz citizens, tourism exports continue to significantly exceed imports. As a result, the tourism surplus increased to $107.9 million, up from $97.8 million a year earlier.

The growth in inbound tourism revenues confirms that the industry is becoming a significant source of foreign exchange earnings for the Kyrgyz economy. Tourism development contributes to job creation, the development of small and medium businesses, the hotel sector, transportation, and services, and stimulates investment in infrastructure.

For Central Asia, increased tourist flows have not only economic but also regional significance. Joint promotion of tourist routes, simplified border crossings, and improved transport connectivity could make the region more attractive to foreign travelers, increase service exports, and strengthen economic cooperation between the Central Asian countries.
