Kazakhstan to Increase Oil Production in August

Seven OPEC+ countries, including Kazakhstan, have agreed to increase oil production by 188,000 barrels per day in August 2026, Zakon.kz reports.

The decision was made following a virtual meeting of representatives from Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Algeria, and Oman held on July 5, 2026. Participants agreed to gradually increase production, emphasizing that this step is aimed at maintaining global oil market stability and balancing supply and demand.

At the same time, OPEC+ countries expressed their readiness to promptly adjust production parameters—including the possibility of slowing, suspending, or completely canceling further increases—depending on market dynamics. It was also noted that this decision will accelerate the fulfillment of obligations to compensate for previously allowed overproduction, which has been recorded since January 2024.

The countries confirmed their intention to fully close the quota-exceeding volumes and will continue to monthly assess the oil market situation, the level of agreement compliance, and the progress of compensation measures. The next meeting of the participants is scheduled for August 2, 2026.

The decision reflects OPEC+'s traditional strategy of cautious production management, prioritizing price stability over a sharp increase in volumes. The moderate increase of 188,000 barrels per day reflects an attempt to balance supporting market prices with maintaining global energy market share.

In a broader context, OPEC+'s move may reflect expectations of moderate growth in global oil demand, as well as the need to maintain discipline within the alliance. The flexible production adjustment mechanism demonstrates that the participants in the agreement seek to minimize the risks of price volatility while maintaining the ability to quickly respond to changes in the global economic environment.
