ASHGABAT - The Turkmenistan national judo team is taking part in the International Judo Federation (IJF) Grand Slam tournament, which is being held in Ulaanbaatar from June 19 to 21. The national team consists of 16 athletes, including those competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics, according to Turkmenportal.com.

Among the team's leaders are Serdar Rahimov (66 kg) and Maisa Pardayeva (57 kg), who represented the country at the 2024 Olympics. Turkmen judokas will compete in various weight classes for both men and women, covering virtually the entire competition field.

A total of 455 athletes from 59 countries are expected to participate in the tournament, making it one of the most prestigious events on the IJF international calendar.

The competition in Ulaanbaatar will be one of the first major tournaments of the new Olympic cycle leading up to the 2028 Games in Los Angeles. Participants will be awarded ranking points: 1,000 for gold, 700 for silver, and 500 for bronze, which directly impacts the world qualifying table.

The tournament results are key to the Olympic rankings, as they determine the distribution of tickets to the Games. Participation in the competition will allow Turkmen judokas to begin competing for points and strengthen their position on the international stage.
