The Prosecutor General of Tajikistan, Khabibullo Vokhidzoda, has officially commented on recent armed incidents along the Tajik-Afghan border. According to investigators, the attacks that resulted in the deaths of foreign workers were a planned provocation targeting the strategic partnership between Dushanbe and Beijing, Asiaplus.tj reports.

The incursions occurred in late 2025 (November 26 and 30) in the Shamsiddin Shohin and Darvoz districts. Groups crossing from Afghan territory targeted a mining company base and a road construction camp.

Casualties of the Tragedy:

  • Deceased: 5 Chinese nationals and 2 Tajik border guards.
  • Wounded: 5 Chinese nationals.

"Why kill a Chinese citizen engaged in road construction? This indicates that criminal groups want to destroy our relations with China," Vokhidzoda emphasized during the press conference.

This statement marks Dushanbe’s third official comment in the past week, underscoring the severity of the situation:

  • Investigation: Criminal cases have been initiated, with the investigation proceeding under international cooperation frameworks.
  • Analysis: Khayriddin Usmonzoda, head of the Center for Strategic Research of Tajikistan, noted that the attackers are groups not subordinate to the current Afghan government (the Taliban).
  • Diplomacy: Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin reported ongoing interaction between the security forces of both countries to prevent further incidents.

Currently, most Chinese specialists in the region are employed in road construction and the mining industry. The Chinese Embassy in Dushanbe has already issued an emergency advisory, urging its citizens to immediately leave border areas and refrain from traveling to these locations until the situation stabilizes.

Tajikistan continues to demand that authorities in Kabul arrest and extradite the organizers of these attacks. However, the outcomes of recent high-level meetings between Dushanbe representatives and the Taliban remain undisclosed to the public.
