Tajikistan's Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin participated in the first-ever meeting of Central Asian foreign ministers and the United Kingdom in the "C5+1" format, held on February 26 in London. Organized at the initiative of the British side, the event marked the first summit of this level since the Central Asian countries gained independence in 1991, Asiaplus.tj reports.

Speaking at the plenary session, Sirojiddin Muhriddin emphasized that bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Kingdom has demonstrated steady positive momentum in recent years. The head of Tajik diplomacy highlighted key areas of engagement:

  • attracting British investment into the republic's economy;
  • developing industrial cooperation;
  • expanding educational and scientific exchanges;
  • implementing modern technological solutions.

The Minister noted that London could become an important partner for Tajikistan in advancing infrastructure and "green" projects, including hydropower development and climate change adaptation.

During the discussion, parties explored synergies between Central Asia's resource and transit potential and the UK's expertise in finance, regulation, education, and high technologies.

For Tajikistan, as a landlocked country, the development of transport corridors and logistics hubs holds particular significance. Dushanbe is interested in leveraging British experience to modernize customs procedures, introduce digital platforms, and enhance the competitiveness of export routes.

Following the summit, the parties agreed on their intention to institutionalize the C5+1 format, establishing it as a regular platform for dialogue on security, economic cooperation, and sustainable development.

Participants also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening regional cooperation in Central Asia, acknowledging the role of external partners in supporting stability and economic growth.

The next C5+1 meeting could take place as early as 2026 — in either in-person or hybrid format — with a potential expansion of the agenda to include climate and digital themes.
