The 2026 harvest is underway in Kyrgyzstan, with farmers having already harvested approximately 2.5 million tons of grain, 714,000 tons more than the same period last year, Economist.kg reported.

According to the country's Ministry of Agriculture, the wheat and barley harvest is almost complete, with the Chui region traditionally leading the way in production volumes.

Gross grain corn harvest also showed significant growth, exceeding 671,000 tons, almost double last year's figures.

Farmers also harvested 965,000 tons of potatoes, over 891,000 tons of vegetables, 240,000 tons of melons, and continue harvesting sugar beets, with an expected total of up to 710,000 tons.

The dynamics of Kyrgyzstan's agricultural sector demonstrate high productivity compared to neighboring countries in the region, particularly Tajikistan.

Despite similar mountainous landscapes and limited arable land, Kyrgyzstan is outperforming Tajikistan in grain harvests, producing approximately 2.5 million tons compared to Tajikistan's gross harvest.

At the same time, both republics maintain their specialization in potato and vegetable production, with Kyrgyzstan leading the potato harvest thanks to the high yields of the Issyk-Kul region, while Tajikistan focuses on early vegetables and cotton.

A successful harvest in Kyrgyzstan strengthens the country's food security and creates the necessary raw material foundation for the domestic processing industry.
