Scientists at the Biotechnology Laboratory of the International Scientific and Technological Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan have conducted a study to extract a valuable antioxidant—resveratrol, a bioflavonoid—from the red grape variety “Pozdniy Vavilova.” The State Intellectual Property Service under the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan has registered the copyright for this technology, Turkmenistan: The Golden Age reports.

Resveratrol is a powerful natural antioxidant that strengthens the cardiovascular system, protects cells from free radicals, supports memory, and, according to scientists, may help prevent the development of cancer. It also has anti-aging properties by blocking glycation processes and preventing damage to collagen fibers. This helps maintain skin elasticity and youthfulness, and stimulates the body's regeneration processes.

Altyn Rakhmanova, head of the biotechnology laboratory, noted that the invention may have wide applications in pharmacology, cosmetology, and dermatology.

The “Pozdniy Vavilova” grape variety was developed at the Turkmen Experimental Station of the All-Russian Research Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking (VNIIR) between 1970 and 1978 through crossbreeding of the “Ichkymar” and “Dzhandzhal Kara” varieties. The grapes are large, conical in shape, with elongated cylindrical berries.
