Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan have agreed to deepen strategic cooperation in energy, transport, logistics, industry, and agriculture. The agreement was reached during the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, held in the Turkmen resort city of Awaza, Orient.tm reports.

The leaders and heads of delegations — Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov (Turkmenistan), Shavkat Mirziyoyev (Uzbekistan), and Ali Asadov (Azerbaijan) — agreed to continue holding meetings in this trilateral format to advance joint projects.

The sides emphasized the strategic importance of expanding humanitarian and cultural ties alongside economic cooperation.

Particular focus was placed on transport and logistics, with Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan highlighting their roles in regional transit corridors, supported by initiatives such as the North–South transport route and Eurasian gas pipelines.

In the context of foreign policy, the participants underscored the importance of strengthening Central Asia’s cooperation with the European Union, citing the Samarkand summit and the launch of a large-scale investment package as key examples.

Berdimuhamedov and Mirziyoyev both noted Azerbaijan’s role as a strategic partner and voiced support for the emerging trilateral cooperation format. According to Berdimuhamedov, this format is already being actively implemented and holds strong potential for sustainable development.

A notable outcome of the meeting was the agreement to build a mosque in Azerbaijan’s Fuzuli district and to establish sister-city relations between Fuzuli and Turkmenistan’s capital, Arkadag.

The Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries took place from August 5–8 in Awaza under the theme “Driving Progress through Partnerships.” The forum discussed strengthening regional ties, infrastructure projects, and the new Awaza Programme of Action for 2024–2034.

The event reflects a broader global trend: Central Asia is becoming increasingly active in international projects on energy, transport, and economic cooperation, strengthening ties both within the region and with the EU, China, and other key partners.

The Awaza meeting marked an important milestone, laying the foundation for a new level of cooperation between Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan. Together, the three nations aim to create a platform for practical, multi-level projects, contributing to a unified strategy for sustainable regional development within the framework of international initiatives.
