An Uzbek delegation is participating in the first International Space Summit, which took place in Paris on September 9-10 at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron. Uzbekistan was represented by Bobur Khodjaev, Head of the Department of Financial Technologies, Digitalization, and Artificial Intelligence of the Presidential Administration, and Sherzod Shermatov, Minister of Digital Technologies, UzDaily.uz reported.
The summit brought together representatives from approximately 90 countries and international organizations, including heads of state and government, heads of space agencies, astronauts, scientists, experts, and representatives of more than 1,000 space industry companies. The main topics were the development of the space economy, scientific and technological cooperation, security, and the creation of sustainable space infrastructure.
Uzbekistan's participation in such a high-profile forum demonstrates the country's growing interest in space technologies as part of a broader digital and innovative transformation. It is important for Tashkent not only to monitor the development of the global space industry but also to establish direct contacts with countries, companies, research centers, and startups.
This could potentially open up opportunities for cooperation in satellite communications, Earth remote sensing, agricultural and natural resource monitoring, climate research, and digital services. The combination of space technologies with artificial intelligence and digital platforms is particularly promising.
For Uzbekistan, participation in the summit is also of strategic importance. The country is demonstrating a willingness to transition from the predominantly consumer use of space technologies to developing its own competencies and international partnerships. If current contacts are translated into concrete projects, space exploration could become a new element of Uzbekistan's technological modernization and international cooperation.
