Uzbekistan’s position on developing a free and open information space was presented at the BRICS Media and Think Tanks Forum in Rio de Janeiro by Foreign Ministry Press Secretary Ahror Burkhanov, IA Dunyo reported.

Burkhanov said Uzbekistan, as a BRICS+ partner, actively promotes freedom of expression, sustainable development, and inclusive media cooperation. “More than 2,400 media outlets operate in Uzbekistan today, 65% of them privately owned. About 2,000 foreign journalists visit the country each year, underscoring the openness of our information environment,” he noted.

He added that engagement within BRICS+ creates new opportunities to share positive narratives about development progress and cultural diversity.

The forum gathered media experts, analysts, and representatives of innovative companies for dialogue. The Uzbek delegation held a series of meetings to strengthen international cooperation in the information sphere. The Foreign Ministry believes such collaboration supports mutual understanding and global stability.
