A new shipment of humanitarian aid from Uzbekistan has been delivered to Balkh Province in Afghanistan, the press service of the Surkhandarya regional administration reported, Gazeta.uz reports.
Following the instructions of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Uzbekistan sent 183 tons of food supplies to the neighboring country in honor of Eid al-Adha (Qurban Hayit).
The shipment included flour, rice, sugar, pasta, confectionery, vegetable oil, instant foods, red beans, and mung beans.
The aid was handed over in Hairatan in a ceremony attended by Ismatilla Irgashev, Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan; Ulugbek Kasimov, Governor of Surkhandarya Region; and Nurulkhodi Abuidris, Deputy Governor of Balkh Province.
Afghan officials expressed gratitude to the President and people of Uzbekistan for their continued support and extended Eid al-Adha greetings, the statement said.
Earlier this year, in March, Uzbekistan delivered nearly 200 tons of food to Afghanistan to mark Nowruz and Ramadan (Ramazon Hayit). In May, the country sent agricultural seeds. That same month, Afghanistan delivered 16 trucks of Herat marble to Uzbekistan for use in the construction of the Imam Bukhari complex in Samarkand Region.
