On the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the presidential press service reported.
The discussion focused on expanding cooperation between Tashkent and the United Nations in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Both sides noted with satisfaction the unprecedentedly high level of partnership between Uzbekistan and the UN. More than 160 joint programs and projects are currently being implemented, and a new five-year Cooperation Program is expected to be signed in October. In recent years, Uzbekistan has initiated 13 UN General Assembly resolutions and has been elected to such key bodies as ECOSOC, the Human Rights Committee, and the Statistical Commission.
Guterres praised President Mirziyoyev’s address to the anniversary session of the General Assembly, emphasizing the importance of his initiatives on advancing the SDGs, fostering a “New Central Asia,” strengthening global cooperation on digital technologies and artificial intelligence, as well as promoting youth development, enlightened Islam, and other areas.
