Uzbekistan and China have signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of road construction and the modernization of transport infrastructure, according to Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport, Gazeta.uz reports.

A delegation from Uzbekistan’s Committee of Highways held talks with the leadership of the Tianjin Institute of Engineering, Design, and Research and visited China’s largest testing laboratory. The parties discussed joint development of innovative materials for the road sector.

Following the meeting, an agreement was signed—marking the first such document between Uzbekistan and a developed foreign country—on the creation of a unified system of standards, development of new materials, and the start of practical work on digitalization in the road industry.

The Ministry emphasized that, for the first time in Uzbekistan, work will begin on introducing advanced technologies, creating modern regulations, and transitioning to digital solutions in the road sector.

Earlier, the head of Uzbekistan’s Committee of Highways, Jamshid Tursunov, noted that the country’s existing road maintenance standards are outdated, leading to “inefficient use of funds.”

In addition, in November 2024, the Tashkent city administration and China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) signed agreements worth nearly $1 billion. The cooperation includes several major projects:

  • Reconstruction of Tashkent’s road infrastructure valued at $300 million. The project involves the modernization of roads and related facilities, as well as the involvement of over 200 specialists, including surveyors and transport engineers.

  • Establishment of a joint venture for the training of architects, designers, and engineers in the field of road construction.

  • Design and construction of modern bridges worth $259 million, aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving the city's transport network.

  • Construction of a modern residential complex valued at $440 million, which will include residential buildings, business centers, educational institutions, and retail spaces.

Cooperation with China opens new opportunities for the development of Uzbekistan’s road sector and the implementation of cutting-edge technologies in transport infrastructure.
