Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan entered into a Treaty of Eternal Friendship and agreed to increase mutual trade turnover to $1 billion by 2030. The documents were signed on August 23 in Tashkent following negotiations between Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Ilham Aliyev and the third meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council, reports Spot.uz.
The parties noted that over the past five years the volume of mutual trade has tripled. The new program provides for specific measures to further expand economic ties. Priorities include energy, chemicals and mining, textiles, agriculture, construction, tourism and banking.
Particular attention is paid to the development of transport connectivity and the Middle Corridor, which can strengthen trade ties between the two countries with the markets of Europe and Asia.
In the humanitarian sphere, agreements were signed on pensions, culture and tourism. Joint educational, sports and cinematic projects are also planned.
The signing of the Treaty of Eternal Friendship indicates the transition of Uzbek-Azerbaijani relations to deeper strategic interaction. The economic component becomes a key practical dimension of the partnership, and the development of the Middle Corridor can give it additional regional significance.
