Chairman of the Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Davron Vakhabov paid a working visit to Afghanistan, holding a series of high-level meetings in Kabul and Kandahar, the CCI press service reported.

In Kabul, Vakhabov met with Abdul Hamid, head of Afghanistan’s State Textile Corporation, to discuss promising cooperation in textile production, fiber processing, and the restoration and relaunch of Soviet-era cotton processing equipment.

The Kabul industrial zone currently houses around 2,000 textile machines manufactured in Uzbekistan in the 1970s. Most are now out of service and require repair.

During his trip, Vakhabov also met with local business representatives and toured Kandahar’s industrial zones to assess opportunities for joint ventures using local resources.

Following the talks, the sides:

  • Signed a memorandum of cooperation

  • Agreed to jointly implement projects aimed at processing at least 50,000 tons of cotton

  • Reached an agreement for Afghanistan to export cotton yarn to Uzbekistan

  • Agreed that Uzbekistan will supply Afghanistan with dyed fabrics for clothing production

Earlier, the Uzbek delegation took part in the opening of a trade house in Mazar-i-Sharif, reached an agreement on importing Afghan coal, and discussed customs-related issues.
