Fossil remains of dinosaurs found in Kyrgyzstan have been identified as endemic species — meaning they are not found anywhere else in the world. This was announced by Ayzek Bakirov, Acting Director of the M.M. Adyshev Institute of Geology of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan, 24.kg reports.

According to Bakirov, several expeditions were organized in 2025 in cooperation with researchers from Germany and the United Kingdom. As a result, new Jurassic-period sites, dating back around 165 million years, were discovered near the city of Tash-Kumyr, South Kyrgyzstan.

The site has been temporarily preserved due to a lack of funding for further excavations.

Bakirov recalled that last year, a new species of theropod - a group of predatory dinosaurs - was discovered in the same area, with the participation of German scientists from the Paleontology Museum in Munich.

"Excavations of dinosaur remains began in the early 20th century and continue to this day. New sites are being discovered, and previously unknown species are being studied," he said.

According to him, more than 30 dinosaur fossil sites have been identified in Kyrgyzstan so far, and local scientists continue extensive research in this field.
