Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres at UN Headquarters. The two sides reaffirmed the high level of cooperation between Ashgabat and the United Nations and discussed key areas of the international and regional agenda, Orient.tm reports.
The key development of the meeting was a discussion of Turkmenistan's initiatives related to promoting neutrality and strengthening global security. António Guterres praised the UN General Assembly resolution on the role of neutrality in ensuring peace and sustainable development, adopted at Ashgabat's initiative, emphasizing its relevance in the context of contemporary geopolitical instability.
Special attention was paid to Turkmenistan's proposal to establish a University of Peace and Neutrality under the auspices of the UN. The two sides expressed confidence that such an educational center would become an important platform for developing preventive diplomacy, intercultural dialogue, and training young people for peacekeeping.
Meredov reaffirmed Turkmenistan's commitment to further promoting international initiatives, including the development of a Global Security Strategy and the establishment of a Peace Mediation Chamber at the UN.
The parties also noted the important role of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, located in Ashgabat, and reaffirmed their intention to expand cooperation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the region.
