The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan announced the inadmissibility of attacks on sea vessels in the Caspian Sea after international media reports on July 25 about an attack on a ship in the waters, Orient.tm reports.
Ashgabat emphasized that, as a Caspian state and a country with a UN-recognized status of permanent neutrality, it views the Caspian Sea as a space of peace, harmony and good neighborliness. The statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan notes the need to prevent actions that could jeopardize security and stability in the region.
Ashgabat’s position is important not only for Turkmenistan, but also for all Caspian states - Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia. The Caspian Sea is becoming increasingly important for energy supplies, maritime trade, port infrastructure and the development of international transport routes.
Any incidents increase risks for shipping, insurance and investment, and may also negatively affect the expansion of the Trans-Caspian international transport route. Turkmenistan, adhering to a policy of permanent neutrality, actually advocates preserving the Caspian Sea outside of military escalation.
For other countries in the region, this creates a diplomatic basis for strengthening security mechanisms, preventing incidents and maintaining a predictable environment for economic cooperation.
