Turkmenistan Pursues Energy Export Diversification While Upholding Neutrality

Turkmenistan continues to advance its strategy of diversifying energy exports while maintaining its neutral status, Ambassador to Russia Esen Aidogdyev wrote in an article for National Defense magazine.

According to Aidogdyev, the country’s goal is not only to export hydrocarbons, but also to build a transparent, depoliticized supply system in which neutrality serves as a guarantee of equal access for all partners.

He emphasized that Turkmenistan’s resource potential and advantageous geographic location create opportunities to strengthen economic cooperation both within the region and beyond. This, he said, is an important factor for stability and balancing interests in the Eurasian energy space.

The ambassador recalled that Turkmenistan has already completed several major infrastructure projects, including gas pipelines to China and Iran. Another large-scale route — TAPI (Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India) — is now in an active phase, supported by participating countries and international financial institutions.

Aidogdyev noted that Turkmenistan remains committed to expanding energy exports while diversifying supply routes. The country’s neutral status, he added, is used as a tool to shield projects from geopolitical pressure and dependency on any single political bloc.
