On the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedow delivered a keynote address focused on global security, peace, and sustainable development, reports Orient.tm.
He outlined Turkmenistan’s position on key international issues and presented a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening the multilateral system and promoting international dialogue.
Highlighting the importance of neutrality as a tool for stability, the President proposed adding a dedicated agenda item, “Neutrality for Peace and Security,” to the Assembly’s discussions. Turkmenistan also prepared a draft resolution on the role of neutrality in maintaining peace, marking the 30th anniversary of the country’s recognized permanent neutrality.
Key initiatives include a World Summit on the Culture of Peace and Trust, with the creation of a global Code of International Trust; an international forum positioning Central Asia as a space for peaceful coexistence; the proclamation of an International Mediation Day; and declaring 2028 as the Year of International Law.
President Berdimuhamedow also proposed measures in economic and environmental areas: the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport (2026–2035); a draft resolution on energy security; the creation of a Global Platform for Digital Integration; a Regional Center to Combat Desertification; and the Caspian Environmental Forum. An International Day of Multilingual Diplomacy is also planned to promote intercultural dialogue.
The President emphasized that Turkmenistan views cooperation with the UN as a strategic priority and a universal platform for peace, development, and global security.
