The Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium delivered a keynote speech outlining his country’s energy policy priorities and prospects for cooperation with the European Union during an expert roundtable organized by the Brussels Energy Club. The event focused on the medium-term outlook for gas imports into the EU and the strategies of gas-exporting countries, Turkmenportal.tm reports.

One of the key topics of discussion was the potential implementation of the Trans-Caspian Gas Pipeline as a viable route for delivering Turkmen gas to Europe via the Southern Gas Corridor. Participants also reviewed the progress of the TAPI project (Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India), with construction already underway on the Afghan segment.

The roundtable emphasized Turkmenistan’s expanding international gas trade partnerships. In 2024–2025, the country signed gas export agreements with Turkey, Iraq, Azerbaijan, and Hungary. These agreements include both direct supply and swap deal mechanisms.

A major theme of the discussion was the ongoing transformation of Turkmenistan’s domestic gas sector. The ambassador presented ongoing projects aimed at producing polymers, fertilizers, synthetic fuels, and other high-value products. These developments open new avenues for technological cooperation with European investors and industrial enterprises.

Marat Terterov, founder of the Brussels Energy Club, praised the strong potential for energy partnership with Turkmenistan and highlighted the importance of the annual “Oil & Gas of Turkmenistan” conference in Ashgabat as a key international dialogue platform.

Participants acknowledged Turkmenistan’s commitment to sustainable energy development, methane emission reduction, and diversification of export routes.

The Brussels Energy Club is an independent expert forum based in Brussels that brings together energy professionals, corporate executives, analysts, media representatives, and EU officials to exchange views on global energy security and development trends.
