On September 15, during an official visit to Doha, Turkmenistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, held talks with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, reports Orient.tm.

The visit coincides with Turkmenistan’s participation in an emergency meeting of foreign ministers from the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), as well as an extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit. Notably, all five Central Asian states are represented at the summit by their foreign ministers — signaling growing regional diplomatic coordination on global crises.

Minister Meredov conveyed greetings from President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, reaffirming Ashgabat’s commitment to strengthening multifaceted, friendly relations with Doha.

The two sides discussed expanding cooperation in political, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres — including mutual investments, transport-logistics corridors, and academic and scientific exchanges.

Turkmenistan’s Official Position on the Doha Strike

During the meeting and on the sidelines of the summit, Turkmenistan officially condemned Israel’s recent strike on targets in Doha, labeling it an unacceptable use of force that violates the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and norms of international law.

“Turkmenistan consistently advocates for the peaceful settlement of all international disputes. Any use of force violating state sovereignty is unacceptable and undermines global stability,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in an official communiqué.

This position fully aligns with Turkmenistan’s long-standing foreign policy doctrine: permanent neutrality, non-alignment with military blocs, and unwavering support for peaceful conflict resolution.

Context: Turkmenistan at the Arab-Islamic Summit

Meredov’s participation in the emergency summit underscores Turkmenistan’s ambition to play a more active role in inter-Islamic diplomacy, even while maintaining its neutral status. Addressing the summit, Meredov called for unity among Muslim nations in the face of external threats and emphasized the need for a collective diplomatic response to escalating violence in the Middle East.

Turkmenistan also voiced support for Qatar’s initiatives toward a peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and advocated for a stronger OIC role in protecting the rights of Muslim minorities worldwide.
