Turkmenistan is modernizing its telecommunications infrastructure: by 2028, the number of international fiber-optic lines will increase to 11, Orient.tm reports.
The Ministry of Communications of Turkmenistan is implementing a large-scale program for the digital transformation of the economy. The construction of new cross-border fiber-optic lines is planned as part of the State Program for 2026-2028.
The Ministry of Communications of Turkmenistan is working on two key areas of international connectivity development. The first involves the construction of the Arkadagyň Ak ýoly bilen Serhetabat – Hyrat fiber-optic line, which will open up opportunities for increasing transit traffic and access to the Indian telecommunications market.
The second strategic project is being implemented jointly with Azerbaijan: Türkmentelekom and Azertelekom are laying a subsea fiber-optic line along the bottom of the Caspian Sea. Construction of overland highways is also underway in the Etrek-Incheburun and Bekdash-Temirbaba directions.
The implementation of these projects will increase the number of international fiber-optic connections from eight to eleven and significantly increase the capacity of the national data transmission system. Turkmenistan is strengthening its position as a vital information and communications bridge between East and West, North and South in the Central Asian region.
