Turkmenistan and IMF discuss economic cooperation and structural reforms

On Thursday, Turkmenistan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Serdar Mukhammetdurdyev, met with a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) led by Anna Rose Bordon, the head of the IMF mission to Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reported.

The discussions focused on the current state and future prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the IMF, with an emphasis on technical assistance, advisory support, and capacity building. Special attention was given to the monitoring of macroeconomic indicators, data sharing, and the advancement of structural reforms aimed at fostering the country’s sustainable economic development.

The parties also exchanged views on global geopolitical instability and its impact on national economies, including external risks, trade prospects, and tariff regulations. The talks further covered Turkmenistan’s potential accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), major infrastructure projects, and the enhancement of economic data exchange mechanisms.

Bordon commended Turkmenistan’s efforts to maintain macroeconomic stability and expressed appreciation for the constructive nature of the ongoing dialogue with the country’s authorities.

The meeting underscored the importance of strengthening external economic relations, exploring bilateral agreements, and promoting infrastructure initiatives.
