During a state visit to Azerbaijan, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov held talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the Zagulba Palace. Following the meeting, the two sides signed a package of bilateral documents, according to the online version of the Turkmenistan newspaper.
Following the official welcoming ceremony, talks were held in narrow and expanded formats. The heads of state discussed the current state and prospects of Turkmen-Azerbaijani cooperation and exchanged views on pressing regional and international issues.
The two sides paid special attention to developing political and diplomatic cooperation, including collaboration within international and regional organizations, and expanding joint work on sustainable development.
Energy, transport, and the environment were separate areas of discussion. The President of Turkmenistan noted the positive dynamics of trade and economic ties and advocated for a further increase in mutual trade. The need to intensify the work of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation was also emphasized. Furthermore, the Turkmen side proposed expanding cooperation in the areas of transport, energy, agriculture and water management, culture, science and education, sports, and healthcare.
The negotiations concluded with a video-conference ceremony for the transfer of the oil tanker Dostluk (Friendship), after which the parties signed the final package of bilateral agreements.
