Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, Myahri Byashimova, at the international conference “Peace, Sustainable Development, and Migration,” held on Thursday in Ashgabat, according to the portal Turkmenportal.com.

According to the diplomat, migration today is not merely the movement of people, but the result of a complex interplay of political, economic, climatic, social, and humanitarian factors. Byashimova emphasized that migration can be either a challenge or an opportunity, depending on how coordinated and responsible national, regional, and international policies are.

In her speech, she reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to international cooperation and its support for the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, which she noted is being actively integrated into the country’s national practices.

Byashimova placed special emphasis on the humanitarian dimension of migration. She noted that Turkmenistan continues to provide assistance to neighboring Afghanistan by implementing infrastructure and social projects aimed at improving living conditions and reducing forced migration.

Climate-related issues were also discussed: Turkmenistan, she said, advocates for the development of adaptation strategies, enhancing the resilience of local communities, and engaging youth in environmental education.

“Peace is possible where there is trust - and trust arises where there is respect, dialogue, and responsibility,” the Deputy Minister stressed.

The conference was attended by representatives of migration authorities from Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as international organizations and institutions.
