Turkmenbashi International Seaport has become a key participant in a large-scale regional project to create "smart" and "green" ports in the Caspian Sea, Orient.tm reports.

As part of an OSCE initiative, implemented with the support of the Italian company RINA and the German HPC Hamburg Port Consulting, a five-year environmental and technological modernization program has been launched.

As part of this program, Turkmenbashi Port will implement a low-carbon model using renewable energy sources, equip the area with digital environmental monitoring systems, and improve the energy efficiency of cargo operations. Particular attention is being paid to training local personnel in accordance with international environmental management standards.

The project also encompasses key ports in the region—Baku (Azerbaijan), Aktau and Kuryk (Kazakhstan), and Batumi (Georgia), forming a unified "green" transport corridor between Asia and Europe. With traffic on the Lapis Lazuli and North-South routes growing, eco-certification gives Turkmenbashi a strategic advantage in attracting global logistics operators focused on sustainability.
