Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has called on member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) to harness their collective potential to diversify the supply of raw materials and goods to global markets and to respond more effectively to emerging global challenges. His remarks came during the informal OTS summit held in Budapest, according to the Kazakh president’s press service.
The summit was attended by Presidents Ilham Aliyev, Sadyr Japarov, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, and OTS Secretary-General Kubanychbek Omuraliev.
In his address, Tokayev emphasized the ongoing transformation of global trade amid shifts in tariff policies. He noted that while these changes bring new challenges, they also open up new opportunities for the economies of Turkic countries.
In response, the Kazakh leader proposed strengthening cooperation among OTS members in key sectors such as industry, transport and logistics, agriculture, and digitalization, in order to overcome shared economic difficulties.
Tokayev highlighted the strategic importance of transforming the Middle Corridor into a vital transport bridge between East and West. He urged joint implementation of major infrastructure projects, including those along the North–South corridor, which he said would significantly boost the Turkic region’s role as a key Eurasian transit hub.
He also underscored the need to diversify supply chains for oil, gas, uranium, and other goods, and called for increased trade between OTS member states.
