Issues of regional cooperation on the use of water resources from the Syr Darya River basin, the implementation progress of the Trilateral Protocol on the operation of the "Tajik Sea" reservoir during June–August 2025, and other matters related to the water sector were discussed during a trilateral meeting of the heads of the water authorities of Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.

This information was released by the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The meeting, held in the Tajik city of Guliston, was attended by Tajikistan’s Minister of Energy Daler Juma, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Water Management Shavkat Khamroev, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, as well as delegations from the three countries, according to the CIS Executive Committee.

Daler Juma stated that the meeting lays an important foundation for the development of cooperation among Central Asian countries in the water sector.

The parties emphasized that in the context of climate change and rising temperatures, the efficient use of water resources becomes a pressing issue.

“Rational use of water resources under current complex conditions is not only a factor in supplying vital sectors of the economy, including agriculture, with water but is also seen as a key element in ensuring water security at the regional level,” participants noted during the meeting.

The parties expressed their readiness to strengthen regional cooperation, improve coordination mechanisms, and use best practices to achieve effective and sustainable water resource management.

Following the meeting, the ministers also visited the "Bahri Tojik" reservoir and reviewed the operations of the "Somgor-1" pumping station located in the Bobojon Gafurov district.
