DUSHANBE - As part of the "Glacier Melt Management and Water Security" project, the Agency for Hydrometeorology under the Government of Tajikistan has received modern, specialized equipment to strengthen the national climate and glacier monitoring system, Pressa.tj reports.

The handover ceremony was held with the participation of representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Embassy of Japan in Tajikistan, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). It is noted that the new equipment will improve the accuracy of glacier, water resource, and hydrometeorological observations, as well as improve data processing and analysis.

The delivery included field, surveying, and information technology equipment, as well as transportation—a snowmobile and a service vehicle. This will expand the capabilities of specialists to conduct research and improve the speed of data collection, especially in hard-to-reach mountainous areas.

During the visit, ADB representatives reviewed the project's progress and discussed future steps with the Tajik side, including financial and procurement issues, as well as the implementation of key program indicators.

Tajikistan emphasizes that, with the support of international partners, the country is strengthening its capacity for climate adaptation and glacier conservation, which play a key role in water security in Central Asia.
