As of May 29, 2025, citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran can now stay in Tajikistan for up to 30 days without the need to register with local internal affairs offices. This change comes as part of a new government resolution amending the country’s rules on the entry and stay of foreign nationals, according to Asiaplus.tj.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan noted that the changes were made through revisions to the 2020 government decree “On the Rules of Entry, Stay, Exit of Foreign Citizens and Stateless Persons and Their Transit Through the Territory of the Republic of Tajikistan.”

According to the ministry, the amendment was adopted on a reciprocal basis and is aimed at simplifying stay conditions for citizens of friendly nations while enhancing international cooperation and bilateral ties.

This move follows a previously signed visa-free agreement between Tajikistan and Iran, which allows citizens of both countries to travel to and stay in the other country for up to 30 days within a 90-day period without obtaining a visa.

The deepening of bilateral relations has gained momentum since the state visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Dushanbe in January 2025. Tajik President Emomali Rahmon hailed the visit as “the beginning of a new phase in the development and expansion of multifaceted relations with a brotherly nation.”

Following high-level talks, the two countries signed 23 agreements, including several worth over $450 million. Currently, 160 Iranian-backed companies operate in Tajikistan. In 2024, trade turnover between the two countries grew by 3.2 times compared to previous years.
