Tajikistan has launched its National Artificial Intelligence Cluster and inaugurated the country's first AI technopark, Area AI, in the Darvoz district. President Emomali Rahmon attended the official opening ceremony, Asiaplus.tj reports.

The AI Council of Tajikistan described the event as a major milestone in the implementation of the country’s National AI Strategy, which was initiated by President Rahmon and approved in 2022. Under this strategy, artificial intelligence is expected to contribute at least 5% to the country’s GDP by 2040. The initiative marks a key step toward developing technological sovereignty and a modern digital economy in Tajikistan.

The AI cluster, developed by the local company darya.ai, focuses on advancing language models, computing infrastructure, and applied research, with a particular emphasis on the Tajik language. The project also provides an environment for training talent and creating open-source AI solutions tailored to the region.

The Area AI technopark will serve as a national platform for research, pilot programs, and international collaboration. It aims to bring together researchers, tech companies, government institutions, and investors to integrate AI across strategic sectors including energy, finance, healthcare, and education.

An exhibition held alongside the launch showcased the work of local AI startups and highlighted the activities of the AI Council.

Three strategic partnership agreements were signed during the ceremony:

  • With ATRC (UAE) to co-develop Tajik-Arabic language models and cross-border AI projects;

  • With Presight AI (UAE) to implement AI in public services, cybersecurity, and smart city development;

  • With Scale AI (USA) to support the development of Tajik language models and scale AI solutions.

The event drew participation from major global players in the tech and finance sectors, including representatives from OpenAI, NVIDIA, G42, Mistral AI, Qatar National Bank, and other international partners and investors.
