Tajikistan Expands Access to Climate Funds

Tajikistan will be able to independently request funding for national climate change adaptation projects without the mandatory involvement of international intermediaries, said Sino Tokhirzoda, Director of the National Center for the Implementation of the Paris Agreement under the Committee on Environmental Protection of Tajikistan.

Tajikistan's direct access to funds from the Green Climate Fund is an important step in the development of its national climate policy. The country will now be able to independently initiate and promote projects aimed at adapting to climate change without the mandatory involvement of international intermediaries. This will accelerate the preparation and implementation of initiatives and more effectively address national priorities.

This decision is particularly significant given Tajikistan's high vulnerability to climate change. Despite its insignificant contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions, the country is already facing melting glaciers, water shortages, increased risk of natural disasters, and threats to agriculture. Therefore, attracting additional financial resources is becoming a crucial prerequisite for sustainable development.

At the same time, direct access to funding also comes with greater responsibility. Successful implementation of the funds will require transparent project management, effective monitoring of their implementation, and the achievement of concrete results. If these conditions are met, cooperation with the Green Climate Fund will enable Tajikistan to strengthen its infrastructure, increase economic resilience, and improve the quality of life of its population in the face of climate change.
