The signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (CoES) of Tajikistan, the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Tajikistan, and the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat took place in the capital of Tajikistan, Dushanbe, Avesta.tj reports.

The document was signed by the Chairman of CoES, Colonel-General Rajabali Rahmonali, the Head of the EU Delegation to Tajikistan, Ambassador Raimundas Karoblis, and the Head of the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat in Tajikistan, Umed Kalandarov.

The agreement provides for the implementation of the project "Initiative for Strengthening Stability in Border Areas." Within the framework of this project, one shelter and two sports grounds will be constructed at a total cost of €3 million, funded by the EU Delegation.

"The construction of these facilities is intended for use in case of emergencies. Modern infrastructure will enable a prompt response to natural disasters, provide temporary shelter for affected individuals, and offer support to the population," noted Tajikistan's CoES.

According to the committee, the shelters will be built in the Sughd region, enhancing preparedness for potential emergencies in the area. The project is part of international cooperation efforts aimed at disaster risk reduction and strengthening stability in border regions.
