DUSHANBE - Tajikistan views energy transition as a key factor in sustainable economic development, strengthening energy security, and improving public well-being. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Resources Sharif Mahmadzoda at the ministerial dialogue on the development of renewable energy sources in Central Asia, which was held as part of the Baku Energy Forum, Avesta.tj reports.

According to him, approximately 95% of the country's electricity is generated by hydroelectric power plants, allowing Tajikistan to occupy a leading position globally in the use of clean energy. At the same time, the authorities are paying special attention to diversifying the energy sector amid climate change, melting glaciers, and growing demand for electricity.

Mahmadzoda noted the importance of developing solar and wind energy, as well as expanding regional cooperation. Among the key projects, he highlighted the country's participation in the Unified Energy System of Central Asia and the implementation of the CASA-1000 international project, which should contribute to strengthening energy ties between Central and South Asia and developing a regional clean energy market.
